From Norway released the total artistic brilliant 'Cold Dark Matter' album early in the summer that is one of the candidates for rock album of the year. Red Harvest have a unique sound that combines the feral blast power of dark metal, industrial, with goth, ambient, techstep jungle and techno music. Their sound fusion is an organic one, think of what The Young Gods - on Only Heaven, or a.r.kane - on I - achieved by mixing many styles of music up that created far more than the sum of the parts. Their complex music naturally flows like the best bands just as The Young Gods, Tool, In the Woods, GYBE - ever twisting and turning, building up, slowing down, speeding up - taking your on a journey through sound. Reference points try combining the emotional power of Neurosis,Killing Joke, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Arcturus, The Cure's Pornography, Strapping Young Lad, Tricky, The Young Gods, (the brilliant) Ulver, Faith No More introduce yourself, and also Tool,Dodheimsgard, a.r.kane - at their loudest peaks on I, In the Woods, Suicide, Mr Bungle - all semtexed together into an explosion of sonic artistic intent with an added ingredient of uniqueness. With Cold Dark Matter, Red Harvest have reached an intensity of brilliance in complex futuristic dark innovative dynamic rock music. Music that reaches far far out, that demands your attention, music that pushes rock music to new sonic unexplored terriority.

In 2000 Red Harvest is not optional - they are ESSENTIAL, compulsory, supreme and sublime - for people who demand innovation in their rock music. Trust me - please check out their brilliant designed website for MP3 sound samples. Red Harvest along with Cave In, Trans Am, Primal Scream, Earthtone 9, Godspeed You Black Emperor and A Perfect Circle - join an elite group of artists that are at the forefront of rock music in 2000.

In 2000 you must experience Red Harvest. Have a 6 track, 73min cd - the tracks are from 1998-2000 and include a 20 min version of leitmotiv which is a bit different from the Overtone version. The news is that this release will be delayed now due in October. However in the meantime I highly recommend that you listen to Yellow6 album, Overtone that was released in the summer. To find out what Yellow6 sound like check this out This is one of the finest albums released this year and will feature high on my end of the year best of list.

I noticed that their distributor, Cargo Records advertised the CD in NME this week, 'with glacial feedback drenced guitars and sequenced beats, yellow6 bridge the gap between electronica and post rock.' TOP FORTHCOMING ANTICIPATED ALBUMS FOR THE YEAR 2000 Sept 25th until year end. Is Adam Wiltzie and Bobby Donne. It is pronounced Ex M Clem. 'is more than an a combination of one part Labradford and one part Stars Of The Lid. ' 'These are songs. Stretched out at times, sometimes with fragmented pieces of song structure carefully placed inside.

Present are slowly developing melodies that still manage to hook your ears. The guitar-based clouds of Stars Of The Lid are here, as well as the clanks of Bobby Donne.s bass, augmented by a deft mixture of samples and keyboards. And Adam Wiltzie sings.' Release date: October 23rd. Yes one of the best Irish rock bands ever, will release their third album the self titled Whipping Boy on October 16th on the Low label, 'The raw dark sexual tension that was prevalent on its predecessor - the excellent 'Heartworm' - takes a minor role here compared to a new found pop sensibility spread on a wider musical canvas.

The sheer power of the band remains undiminished. They still present their work in an honest unflinching manner that is in unison with greatness.' Indeed Whipping boy's Heartworm along with Puressence debut injected the mid 90s rock scene with some depth and intelligence, after suffering from grey boring Brit Pop dullards that dominated at the time. Explains why this popular movement was so conservative, bland and lifeless.

Generic bands such as Cast, OCS, and Oasis and Shed Seven were so painful: dragging, dull and pointless. I remember when Jaz Coleman of Killing Joke was one of the first to put the boot into Britpop. Much respect. Killing Joke released the brilliant Pandemonium in 1994.

Over at Tom is seeking advice on what to play at retro early 90s indie disco that he is DJing. Are an unusual band in that the incorporate Egyptian Middle Eastern Rhythms with a brutal complex Death Metal guitar and drums onslaught.

John Peel is a firm supporter of Nile since their album, Amongst The Catacombs Of Nephren-Ka. I am not normally a fan of Death Metal prefering the atmospheric/ experimental dark metal sounds of the likes of Solefald/ Emperor/ Agathodiamon/ Satyricon/ In the Woods and bands such as Strapping Young Lad, Dodheimsgard, Ulver, Red Harvest that have incorporated electronic technical, jungle & industrial music into their metal music However it is clear that Nile are innovating with their sounds, unlike most of the bogstandard death metallers that churn the same music grunt and grind, refusing to experiment with new influences. Nile are sound innovators, in the way the following were Metallica: Master of Puppets (1986) Voivod: Dimension Hatross (1988) Sepultura: Roots (1996) Nile have a new album out, Black Seeds Of Vengeance.

If you are curious to find out what they sound like then you need to visit. A strong candidate for the best print music magazine in the world. Have a new issue out, Main features include a sublime trio A Perfect Circle Primal Scream The Damage Manual Also articles on Medival Bbes, BT, Simon Raymonde (Cocteau Twins), Echoboy, Steve Von Till (Neurosis), Faith & Disease, Lether Strip, Glampire, Lift to Experience, Contagion, Dark Tranquillity, Any Questions?, SMP, Mental Home, Dichroic Mirror, and more!

All the artists, labels and advertisers etc mentioned in this issue of the magazine can be linked to from here Hope to pick up my copy soon. Picked up via the wonders of Real Player Software, yes, I have just heard a few tracks of the Radiohead, and it is better than I expected. It is experimental art electro rock in that focuses on electronic beats and sound textures, first impressions draw similarities with Roxy Music For Your Pleasure, U2 Acthung Baby and The Unforgetable Fire, Underworld Dubnobase., Cabaret Voltaire Microphonies, Simple Minds Sons of Fascination /Sisters Feeling Call, and Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here. While more contemporary artists like Fluke, DJ Shadow and even Trans Am are recalled. While another track treefingers is a very ambient mantra rock like David Bowie Low, Brian Eno or even Robert Leiner Visions of the Past. Another track national anthem is certainly starts similiar to U2 and then builds up into a distorted stop start dynamics similiar to DJ Shadow or Can's Future Days or even the dynamics of Simple Minds Empires And Dance or even the jazzy distorted sounds suggest a Miles Davis influence.

The whole Radiohead Kid A album will be played back at midnight on John Kennedy' s radio show on except at the moment you cannot connect to the Xfm website. More comments later. And talking of Simple Minds, the New U2 sounds very uptempo is not too far in sound way from 'Sparkle in the Rain' era While another new more reflective track if you wear that velvet dress. Actually sounds similiar to Radiohead. What would the U2 rabid fan bloggers at make of my viewpoints of comparing their beloved U2 as Simple Minds inspired?

2000 -THE MESS WE ARE IN BLAME IT ON THE MEDIA & RECORD COMPANIES AGENDA OF CONTROLLED CONFORMITY of The The sums up why the record industry is completely fucked up. In an essay THE THE VERSUS THE CORPORATE MONSTER. The The released an excellent album earlier this year, Naked Self that got overlooked by most of the media. Also The The's Guestbook is worth checking out Here is an entry which is very similiar to what happened to Xfm in London, from someone living in Denver, Colorado when big business takeover they completely ruin the music policy of the station 'Why is it that the artists, the ones whom without there would be no music industry, are the ones who get shit on the most? There is a radio station here that I basically grew up listening to called KTCL 93.3. They used to be independent and have a very open minded format.

They would play anything from The The to The Cure to King Crimson to the Exploited to Aphex Twin to Skinny Puppy to Syd Barrett and beyond. About a year ago they got bought out by a corporate radio company and now all I can expect to hear on the station is Blink 182, Kid Rock, and eminem' 'Misapplied the 'alternative' label to it, resulting in a genre that should really be called 'Pseudo-Alternative.' If not pseudo-alternative, it should be called AMA (Alternative My Ass) or ALPO (Alternative by Proclamation Only - bearing a striking resemblance to dog food). It's been going on for years now, but it's still painful to hear people describe regressive 90s modern rock as 'alternative.' And if you try to tell these folks theyve been snookered by the music industry, they get indignant. That's how effective the marketing has been, leaving us with a hoodwinked generation unknowingly manipulated into embracing regression and revering it as cutting edge.'

And to demonstrate this HOODWINKED generation, in the worst music chart of contemporary rock music I have ever seen: (found this in UBL directory in the alternative section!) if this was a spoof it would be funny that is real is how scary and bleak hoodwinked world we live in. Bland pseudo rock alternashit music that offers nothing interesting, that means nothing to me, that represents zero creativity, thats revels in plodding generic conformity that cannibalises the worst past history of rock music, these musicians and fans have music mad syndrome from listening to the same music all the time their brains have gone soft and they are unable to think for themselves - they are inside the matrix - controlled and trapped. The musical equivalent of living only on bread and water, except there has been no new bread (new sounds) delivered and water (sterile radio stations) are now being drip feed to keep these music coma victims ticking away with a weak faint pulse, they are now dependant on this drip they don't know any better. The major record companies have got em! They can now sell truckloads of the lowest common generic bullshit and make big profits while the bloated fat cats at record companies and radio stations are quilty of horrible music pimpery. Are a new band to me, from San Diego. Their music is sublime space rock think Dif Juz, Bark Psychosis, Flying Saucer Attack, Bowery Electric, Trans Am or the new direction taken by Appliance.

Chiming ever changing funky guitar and bassline passages, experimental tempos, very deep washes of keyboards all create a sonic epic instrumental sound, total blissout. They have a new album out, 'Dreams Signals in Full Circles' - due out in the UK, September 25th on the Tiger Style label. The band are formed from ex members of The Crimson Curse, The Locust & Strictly Ballroom. Although I am not familiar with any one of these artists. Can be heard at Epitonic, their wonderful music is worthy of at least five minutes of your time.

Has ben updated today. This includes A list of the best albums of the year so far Also a list of forthcoming Albums for 2000. A list of Albums that have been released this year that I am very interested in hearing 1. And you will know us by the trial of dead 2. Asian Dub Foundation 5. Assemblage 23 6.

Visions

Bushwacka 10. Diary of Dreams 12. Dirty Three 13. Drowningman 14. Einsturzende Neubaten 15.

Flesh Field 18. The For Carnation 20. Grandaddy 23. Holger Hiller 24.

Max Tundra 26. Roy Montgomery 28. Movietone 29.

Primordial 33. Anthony Rother 35. Amon Tobin 39. Two Lone Swordsmen 40. Cristain Vogel Why cannot you find this diversity and creativity on the radio? Why is radio so bland, formula driven and narrow in their choice of sounds? It is not possible for me to buy all these albums, therefore if we had a decent radio station to listen to, that offered quality and choice - then people would be in a position to expand their horizons, discover new sounds, make up their own minds on what they like or dislike rather than act sheep like as the status quo exists.

Most radio stations select from a small number of sub standard artists, this is ignoring the artistic creativity of artists they don't play and ignorning the needs of discerning listeners. Has a new double CD retrospective, Everything and Nothing - due out on October 9th. David Sylvian's Gone to Earth album released in 1986 was his masterpiece, it was a multilayered album that had elements of free jazz, avant garde oceanic rock that combined to create a very arty atmosphere, here was music that so much space, deep drift and improvised experimentation. This album never appears in those best albums of all time lists, IMHO Gone to Earth is a classic seminal album. Two years later Talk Talk achieved a similiar artistic statement is Spirit of Eden, as did Bark Psychosis in 1994 with Hex. Give an interview to Irish Online Muse magazine, taking about their comeback and new album,The Friends of Rachel Worth, due out 18th September. The Go Betweeens were much celebrated by the critics in the 80s releasing a fine series of albums but never crossed over to the mainstream, it is a shame they never achieved a wider audience.

1983's Cattle and Cane is my favourite track, it has an excellent build up with echoey jangley guitar riffs that compliment when played back to back with similiar 80s favourites such as The Smiths How Soon is Now, Orange Juice Rip it up and Echo & the Bunnymen's Cutter. Are touring Europe, with support coming from one of the most dynamic exciting rock bands on the planet - Botch, who are on Hydrahead label. They released the brilliant 'We are the Romans', in 1999 and are strong favourites in the underground rock scene. Also on the Hydrahead label are who now have a new official website. Once again I highly recommend that this is an essential album listen to in 2000. It is epic, creative, psychedelic, innovative, sublime space art rock music.

Some things never change! Television with Marquee Moon in 1977 made a bold artistic statement, when the rest of America was drowining in cliched soft rock/ classic rock/AOR. Jane's Addiction - in 1988 delivered the sublime Nothings Shocking when the rest of America was listening to dumb ass Hair / Poddle Metal bands, with weedy guitar solos and naff songs, remember that total prat Coverdale in Whitesnake.

Cave in with Jupiter are making a similiar artistic statement in 2000 fighting against the enemy, putting innovation back into rock music when so much of high profile rock music in America is totally naff, redneck rap metal, recycled lightweight punk, and melodic modern rock sub grunge bollocks make up most of the playlists in rock stations in America and Xfm in London! Cave in - jupiter - an innovative rock album, please do not ignore this band and their fantastic new album. In over 20 years, the masses are proven that they have never know any better then can keep their stupid music for stupid people.

Wow Visions Of The Past

If you want the best rock music, you need to go to the creative margins to find innovation. Cave in have done this for 2000. The British press are ignorant and dumb, that puts a 10th rate shallow sub-punk pop, Dum Dums on the front cover is so sad. They should be supporting artists such as Cave in!

Have a new website. It is one of the most graphic intensive websites, I have ever seen for a band. Regular Fries will release their second album strangley titled: War on Plastic Plants, this will follow up the sublime psychedelic debut album released last year, Accept the Signal - that meshed beats with brilliant tripped out epic guitar sounds, similiar Pink Floyd in the late 60s, also there was a noticeable Happy Mondays/ Flowered Up vibe to their music. I thought their debut was a sublime album although it got overlooked in the UK, both in the critics end of year polls and commercially.

Only one UK music magazine Rock Sound, gave it a stunning review and said it was a classic album. Their profile has risen with a recent single, and no doubt they will be heavily marketed as a hip and happening alternative British band for the latest University generation. I would not rule out a potential front NME front cover, especially with Paul Moody being an ex minor NME journalist. Virtual crash 3.0 crack. The album is out in October, probably October 9th. Are an Irish band that specialise in dark epic arty expansive emotional rock music, their 1998 album, A Journeys End was an album I rated highly as it established them as a band with a unique sound.

Although there are reference points to Anathema, My Dying Bride, In the Woods, Tiamat and even The God Machine spring to mind. They have released an album this year, Spirit the Earth Aflame that I must check out soon. Primordial website states: 'That has always been their aim from the start, to create something timeless music. Something that can stand on it's own irrespective of genre. Songs with atmosphere and emotion.

From the singularily unique tonally distinctive guitar playing, to the chameleon like vocals, encompassing and mastering a myriad of styles to the rhythmic and tribal poundings of the Bass and drumsit all adds up to a Pure and honest emotive Metal Journey. Haunting and Witching in it's innovation. We know you will succumb to it's charms.' The more observant will notice that I have added a one click icon to 3WK Radio, this takes you directly to your Real Player software.

3WK Radio broadcast 24/ 7 and the sound quality is good. They broadcast in mono rather than Stereo which improves the bandwith and quality of sound over the internet. So if your local radio stations sucks, you want to a change from your CD collection, or if you cannot access your CD collection then check out 3WK radio it is not perfect there is a lot of music that they miss out that I would include, but it is a lot better the most stations. The music policy is similiar to print magazine i.e it favours 'the authentic worthy guitar types ' alternative rock, emo, lo-fi songs type bands.

Although looking at the playlists today the following diverse artists are included Trans Am, My Bloody Valentine, Underworld, Sleater Kinney Depeche Mode, Sonic Youth, At the drive in, Primal Scream, The Pixies, Einsturzende Neubaten, The The, Laika. And happily there is no sign of that wanker in the backwards baseball cap the retarded redneck moron Fred Durst. Is an electronic and industrial music magazine based in Belgium, that I highly recommend.

Their next edition is due soon. Side Line also offer a daily music news service on their website.

'Our forthcoming issue n33 is coming soon. The new sleeve is now online! In this issue, you'll find interviews with Juno Reactor, Hooverphonic, Midge Ure, Biosphere, Psyche, Buscemi, Stillste Stund, Suicide Commando, Sunday Munich, Negative Format,:Wumpscut:, Love Like Blood, Hungry Lucy, Faith & Disease, Glampire, Avantgarde, Endanger, Feindflug, Hednoize, The Young Gods, Icon of Coil, Von Magnet, Yendri, Midnight Configuration, Neuropa, Torturektekk and many more! Apart from this, you get the usual shipload of reviews etc'.
